almost there...

a little bit cooler today

so i dragged the boys down to the
washington county fair.
unfortunately mucus is not quite tall enough for the rides.

oh well.
maybe next year!

double 5

only 55 lazy, crazy days of summer left.
it sounds like a lot
but it's really not.
back to school sales everywhere.
august is right around the corner.
gotta enjoy this while it lasts.

high temp: 97, with a little bit more clouds
but still hot enough to play in the pool.

monkey and i rode our bikes to the playground.
i gotta tell you...
what a completely surreal feeling it is
to see my little baby
riding around on a tricycle.
he looks so big and grown up
but at the same time
so little still.
*sigh*
i guess, this is how it's going to be.

fifty-six

date: wednesday, 7/29/09
high temp: 107!

update: our house is a disaster! toys everywhere.
play doh on the floor. markers markings on the table.
minnie mouse and handy manny always on the floor.
and i'm going completely stir-crazy.
finally had to leave the house today after 4 days of incredible HEAT.
went to the regal cinemas family film festival.
a/c blasting...very nice. free movie and the boys could be as loud as they want.
watched madagascar 2.
did i mention it was free? gotta love it.
great price.

but of course, after you play with EVERY single toy in the house...

good thing this heat wave is almost over.

seven

one morning
we took a walk down to a beach.
you and i
hand in hand.
we listened to a man talk
about a lei...
it circles the head
and covers the heart.

seven years ago today.
early morning.
we got all dressed up.
we walked down to a beach.
i remember you cried,
which made me cry.
i remember a bright yellow boat
in that crystal blue water.
i remember an ant crawling up my arm
and you brushed it away.
and smiled.
i remember you saying that i looked pretty.
and i felt pretty. i did.

just the two of us.
we said our i do's.
seven years ago. today.

58...

it's funny. but i just can't help it.
when i see other kids
the same age as monkey,
doing things that he can't quite do.
he tries, but it's just out of his reach.
when i see this,
i freak out.
i think...man, i'm an awful mom.
i need to work on that more with him.
and i do just that.
we work on it.
and work on it some more.
until monkey is so sick of whatever it is
that he just gives up completely.
and then i'm heartbroken.
and i give up as well.

then. all of a sudden. when i'm not looking,
he does it.
all on his own.
and completely surprises me.

watch me mommy! i can do it now!
i'm a big boy!
and my heart is overflowing.

59 days of summer left

date: sunday, 7/26/09
high temp: 98
mood: fair
goal: a picture a day. to capture the rest of the summer.

no. these are not the chiquita banana boys.
these are little monkeys
jumping on the bed, err couch
they fell off and broke their heads
i, the mama, had to call the doctor
who said
to put band aids on their heads.
the mama, thought very quickly
and improvised with these blankets.

The Outpost at Shute Park

we checked out this event that
the city of hillsboro parks and rec
puts on called the outpost at shute park.
everyday until mid-august,
they set up at the park and play.
there were quite a few "stations" set up.

the ball pit.
which is pretty much a pop up tent with loads of balls.
this was a hit with the boys.
...check out their shaved heads!
yes, i got a bit carried away...

frisbees and hula hoops.
there were bouncers and balls.
soccer and volleyball.

and this...

awesome jumper thingy!
mucus loved it.
i may have to do some online search-shopping later

plus a free lunch!
can't beat free.
thanks for the tip denise!

hot fun in the summer sun

fourth of july.
thanks to the shah's,
we had a wonderful day.
hung out at an awesome
fourth of july celebration.

there were a couple of bouncy houses.
some for the little ones.
and a different one for the bigger kids.

there was food and drinks.
cotton candy and ice cream.
and loads of sunshine.

almost 3 hours of non-stop
under-the-sun fun
(and a quick stop to cherry pick at the johnson's)
only means an even bigger nap!

a big thank you (again) to the shah's
for inviting us to a block party bbq.
an awesome dinner.
and some fireworks!

monkey gives a thumbs up for the fireworks
he really enjoyed them this year.
plus, he was just a bundle of energy
(probably from the huuuge costco cupcake he had)

mucus had a harder time...

no longer a cali girl...

i think that i may now officially
call myself an oregonian.
no longer a cali girl,
for i am now a wussy.
95 degrees
and i'm whining about it.
oh-em-gee.
i'm such a wuss.

but of course,
the boys loved it.
couldn't get them to come back inside
to the comforts of the a/c.

they played the entire day outside.
completely skipped naps
and just played.
